This activity is designed to help students learn about writing introductions through a fun bridge building activity to join the lead noun card and thesis statement card. Let’s combine it all! This activity helps students use thesis statements constitutional law essay, bridges and leads to write strong essay introductions. Creating an attention-grabbing lead isn’t always easy but it’s very rewarding to students when they are able to create engaging introductions. Prior to playing the game, explain to your students that in order to win the game, they will need to work together to form a paragraph from the strips. You can take this a step further and ask your students to write out the completed paragraph. You have your hamburger. You’ve explained it to your class, they kind of understand. They can see that it fits together, but something is missing (it’s not the ketchup). You need to guide your students into the initial steps of building the perfect burger. You can’t hand them the diagram and say what is a good reflective essay topic, “let’s write introduction sentences”. You need to simplify this process and teach your students how to identify each part of a paragraph. A common mistake teachers make is assuming that their students can rewrite a sentence using different words, but retain the same meaning. This is a daunting task for most students, but even more so for ESL learners. Explain to the students that this map shows the basic layout of a persuasive paper. They will need to keep this handout to use when they start writing their own persuasive essays. For a strong persuasive paper you need to have: (2 min) Portrayal: Use the persuasion maps as a visual aid for the students to see the main parts that are necessary in a persuasive essay. As a group, fill out a persuasion map on the essay we read in class. f. Judges’ comments / participants pleas on reality shows to get votes. · Some questions: Did this essay persuade you that summer break should stay how it is? What persuaded you? What did not persuade you? Instructional objective: After completing this activity the students will be able to correctly identify all of the four main parts of a persuasive essay (Thesis, Main Reasons, Facts or Examples, Conclusion). To do this the students will also need to be able to: 3. Read the essay out loud or call students to read each paragraph. This could depend on the class’s reading level or the teacher’s comfort. The point is to have students pay attention to the essay. (5 min) 2.
